Here's a picture of the observatory and the fire that I just plucked off the front page of the NYTimes. Great picture, methinks.

I was reading about the Georgia fire on CNN this morning. Last night we were watching TV and they interrupted the show to go live at the big fire in Griffith Park in Los Angeles. You never know how bad it really is when watching the news, they are so breathless about every event. But I guess no houses are in danger at the moment and the Observatory and the zoo animals are safe for now. We can't see smoke from it either. Just after I sent that message, the weather channel showed the drift of that smoke from Georgia-NorthFlorida. It crosses the state and snakes down the west coast all the wayto Key West. That's gotta be 400 miles. On May 8, 2007, at 3:10 PM, Johnson Cyndi D Civ 95 CG/SCSRT wrote:I hope it is farther away than you think. We have seen smoke here, completely blanketing the place like fog, from over 150 miles away - atrick of the wind. Maybe that's what this will turn out to be. Big clouds of smoke moved in about noon. The background has turned yellowish and the foreground is hazy gray. Can't believe the wind is bringing this stuff from the northern part of the state and Georgia--that's 250 miles or so. Must be of closer origin.
