OK- for "heavy" jobs- the washable leather gloves from Garden Supply Co. They protect my hands, stay supple even after they are wet, and you can throw them in the washing machine if you really want too.
For everyday in the garden- the only gloves I've ever been able to keep on my hands (because gloves in general annoy me) are something called "Sun Grips"- they are nylon on the back and have a thin layer of polyurethane on the palm side that extends over the fingertips. The key is that it is a thin layer, so you can still feel everything and do fine detail work even with the gloves on, and the nylon backing stays cool so your hands don't roast.

I got a message from David recently and he asked if I'd do a poll here for him. He'd like to know about your favorite gloves. He would like to know both the material and the manufacturer. If you have more than one kind of favorite - perhaps one for everyday garden work and another for heavy duty jobs - mention that too. Thanks.
