FYI, from J. Med. Entomol. 40(5): 732B736 (2003), written by the same
author that this USDA article is citing (four years later, huh)...

The detergent that was most effective at killing ticks was 'Clout', sold
through Costco, in "an amount slightly greater than the manufacture's 
recommendation for a moderate size load of wash".

In contrast, powdered Tide and liquid Heavy Duty Ultra both had about
35% efficacy.
