I forgot to say -- I don't fertilize them in the winter when they are in the house. I do, however, try to remember to water them.

David would like to know more about Zem's brugs. David wants to know what Zem fertilizes with? Why do I suddenly feel like Bob Dole?

Zem's are watered and fertilzed constantly and kept in the partially shady back yard under a giant pecan tree.

Frigid? Well more so than much of the rest of the country I suppose thank g--! I just heard while watching 24 hour Rita news that Houston is 97 and the water temp in the gulf is 90! How do you people stand it???
Jim Singer, I have seen some very beautiful specimens in Golden Gate Park in SF. That fits right in with your n. Calif. coastal description. I suppose they are cloud forest plants in their native areas? Then how do we explain Zems which look like very nice plants? Thanks Jims. That explains a lot that I didn't know about them.

David Franzman wrote:Hey ZemBy the way, you have some very nice brugs. I really like them and feel they are not appreciated enough. Nice pics you took. Does anybody know where they are native to? They seem to grow in many different climates.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Western South America, Peru, Ecuador etc. Most are higher elevation plants (but a few are lower-elevation coastal); that's *species* of course. Being higher elevation, they prefer cooler weather and so flower best in the time between fall cool-down and first frost. This was the experience I had when I grew B. suaveolens in the tomato patch... They should do well for you in your frigid but frost-free climate... -jrf -- Jim Fisher Vienna, Virginia USA 38.9 N 77.2 W USDA Zone 7 Max. 95 F [36 C], Min. 10 F [-12 C] --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT
