Re: nature signs

This has been an especially good year here so far in neIN. A nice warm, well-mannered March. A cool summer -only turned the A/C on once. And Sep has been warm, currently 800. The 10 day forecast shows an expected high of 690 on Oct 1. I recall some Septembers past during which, near the end of the month, I was tempted to turn on the heat. And it has to be darned cold for me to do that in September. I usually try to hold out until November.

I've read that the Farmers Almanac has predicted a very cold dry winter for us, but the Natl weather service says it will be mild due to El Nino action. Who knows? No big rats here, but Seamus keeps showing up with chippies, dead and alive.

Yeah... 3 inches of snow on the eve of the equinox is not a good sign.

Betsy, I about spit out my coffee when I saw you had snow already.
Wow!

I have a rat too-heard it last night in the kitchen-YUCK! AND I have
squirrels that have chewed off part of my siding to get into the
roof. I
swear, it must be a hard winter coming. It's still 85 degrees here.

Hi Donna,
I cannot answer for the squirrels. but a month ago the cats
caught
two mice in the house in one week. I thought it was rather early for
the
mice to be coming in so I began to think along your lines...early
snow...tough winter.
Well, yesterday we got 3" of snow here in Evergreen. The average
first
snow for Denver is OCtober 14th and last year's first snow was
November
14th.

I hope another nature person can add some light to this subject.

Many here are nature buffs in different climates. So I am wondering
what
the
critters here are trying to tell me.

Every year the squirrels etc always buried the apples, pears etc
getting
ready
for winter. This year, they are placing them high! I watch thru the
window
and seen him put a pear all the way on the top of a trellis in the
clematis.
Now I noticed a pear on the top of the metal holder for the climbing
rose
bush- wedged in between the butterfly metal wings on the top
decoration, a
good 6ft up....

So, does this mean a lot of ice and freeze or 6 ft of snow is coming?

In all the years I have been here, I have never seen this before....
so
something is up!

Donna
