Re: nature signs

Now I know who to ask the question that's bothered me off and on for years: How do you move a pumpkin that weighs half a ton?

Hello Cyndi,
Sorry that I did not respond sooner. That 3" of snow was nothing compared to what a friend one mountian valley over and only another 1000 feet higher. She had 10 + inches of snow in one day, and the snowy weather continued for 2 more days. And I only got sleet and rain on days 2 and 3. The weather system would not move along..just stayed over the mountains. We even had to start
the wood stove..way too early.
At least it was sunny and warm for my garden center;s Giant Pumpkin
weigh-off. The state record was set at 1283 and it was grown on our property
by one of our friends.

In the mid-90s here and going up over the weekend, but it's getting
cooler at night; it is starting to feel like fall weather.
Betsy, I about spit out my coffee when I saw you had snow already. Wow!

I have a rat too-heard it last night in the kitchen-YUCK! AND I have
squirrels that have chewed off part of my siding to get into the roof. I
swear, it must be a hard winter coming. It's still 85 degrees here.

Hi Donna,
I cannot answer for the squirrels. but a month ago the cats
caught
two mice in the house in one week. I thought it was rather early for the
mice to be coming in so I began to think along your lines...early
snow...tough winter.
Well, yesterday we got 3" of snow here in Evergreen. The average
first
snow for Denver is OCtober 14th and last year's first snow was November
14th.

I hope another nature person can add some light to this subject.

Many here are nature buffs in different climates. So I am wondering
what
the
critters here are trying to tell me.

Every year the squirrels etc always buried the apples, pears etc
getting
ready
for winter. This year, they are placing them high! I watch thru the
window
and seen him put a pear all the way on the top of a trellis in the
clematis.
Now I noticed a pear on the top of the metal holder for the climbing
rose
bush- wedged in between the butterfly metal wings on the top
decoration, a
good 6ft up....

So, does this mean a lot of ice and freeze or 6 ft of snow is coming?

In all the years I have been here, I have never seen this before....
so
something is up!

Donna
