Re: Rototilling - What is the alternative

As a matter of fact, I have a copy of Ruth Stout's book -- found it many, many years ago at a used book sale, read it cover to cover, and wouldn't part with it.

I always used her method in my potato patch. Anyone who is familiar with her method and has ever spent a few hours digging potatoes will understand why!

By the way, I didn't mention it, but in case anyone wonders, I had marvelously big earthworms in the soil under that black plastic, a few mice scurrying about, and even a snake (which I discovered when I stepped on it). So life *does* go on under the plastic.
