Dear Gardening Friends,

Sometimes after-thoughts can create beautiful compositions in the garden.  
While sowing spinach seed the other day I noticed that the half flat of 
purple violas I had hastily planted under my clary sage were now fully 
established and blooming heavily.  The combination of the clary sage and the 
violas was superb and to tell you the truth a complete surprise!  My 
intention was simply to get the violas in the ground somewhere, anywhere.  
What I ended up with is a new plant combination and plenty of extra viola 
blooms to add to my spinach salads.
