I dropped out of GWA(A) several years ago, partly because they weren't doing 
much for me and partly because they started essentially selling Quill and 
Trowel awards. (Not that I ever would have gotten one. I overheard a couple 
of the judges talking at a luncheon about how "unprofessional" they thought 
first person writing was, and my column is as first person as it gets, so I 
stopped submitting.)
