Re: [GWL]: Old Growth


Another point about old growth forests: because the trees grow in shaded, 
crowded conditions, they grow more slowly, so their growth rings are much 
closer together than "new growth" trees.  In the replanted redwood groves in 
Northern California, the trees shoot up because they have lots of light and 
room.  A redwood bowl made from an old growth tree is much more beautiful 
than one made from a new tree.
