The Floriade is a once in every ten year horticultural exhibition that is 
held in the Netherlands.  In 2002 the 6 month long exhibition, or worlds fair 
of horticulture if you would, will be held in Haarlemmermeer, which is 
between Hoofdorp and Haarlem.  It is centrally located as it is 25 minutes 
from Amsterdam, 10 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from Haarlem.  As 
well it is on the edge of the South Holland bulbfileds so it is a great area 
for touring.  This is the fifth Floriade which is held in different areas 
around the country each time it is offerred.

So what is Floriade?  It is a showcase of Dutch horticulture which includes 
flowers, plants, trees, shrubs, vegetables, and fruit.  Exhibition halls will 
offer great displays, as well as display gardens offerring a taste of what 
gardens and horticulture means to nations throughout the world.  Some of the 
countries that will exhibit are the Ukraine, Costa Rica, Singapore, Columbia, 
South Africa, Kenya, Isrealo, Morocco, India, China, Japan, United States, 
Spain, Russia, Portugal, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Belgium, France, Germany and 
many, many, more.  There is a theme for the 2002 Floriade which is the Art of 
Nature, and that will be exemplified throughout the park.  In fact where the 
international pavillons will be located is a natural woodland with a large 
lake and the pavillons will be on the lake shore in a very natural setting.  
Another area will be dedicated to green living in the future with proto types 
of what is possible for our housing.  All aspects of horticulture will be 
explored at the Floriade aside from garden and plant displays there will be 
educational exhibits, equipment displays with current and futuristic ideas, 
landscaping and design ideas, modern greenhouse equipment (which the Dutch 
are masters at) and much, much more.
