In response to Nan Sterman's request for info on
Floriade, I went to the last Floriade (1992) very late in the six month show and
I was quite sorry that I chose that late date to attend. Many of the
exhibits were closed down and because it was essentially late fall there, the
plants and demonstrations were petering out. I could see that it had been
much better earlier on - like any garden show, so I would suggest that travelers
consider seeing it in spring when the tulips are in full bloom or in summer when
gardens in general are looking good, but not in October. Also I have on my
wall a 6" Delft souvenir plate which was cast for Floriade 1992. I bought
it as a reminder that I had been there, but it also serves as a reminder that
one should very carefully check what the price in another nation's currency
translates to in our own currency. I got a real shock when my Visa bill
arrived and I found I had paid $175 for the thing! Caveat emptor!
