Re: Plants across borders

Does anybody know what are the restrictions/rules about plants or seeds
across the US-Canadian border? I may be leading a group of Master
Gardeners into Canada next spring and they typically like to buy plants.
Does anyone know a contact or website that I could check for the latest
restrictions/laws?
Dear Sandie,
It's very hard to get plants across legally as they require a phyto sanitary
inspection and certificate to cross into the U.S.
They have to be planted in a sterile, soiless medium like Pro-Mix as no soil
can cross between the countries.
Unless you know before hand where you will be getting the plants and have
the company schedule Agriculture Canada to come in and inspect them and
issue a Phyto for you , it's impossible to get one on the spot.

Good luck and I do hope you can make it up for a visit.
