question about rates

Hello GWL,

I'm hoping someone can give me an idea about what's an acceptable pay rate
per word. I'm in discussion with a national magazine (total audience: about
800,000) about a gardening article that will probably run about 800-900
words. Until now, my professional writing has been mostly for newspapers,
so I'm not sure what to expect or demand.

There's also a chance that I'll be supplying a couple of photos. Anyone
know how the pricing works for that?

Thanks,

Roger

PS: the editor and I have already swapped at least 15 e-mails after the
initial query, so I want to make sure that I don't sell myself short.
