Hi, Duane! Pat Stone here!

Apparently today's controversy in GWA land is my putting your  
wonderful, "Bill, the Garden Cat" in the free promotional ebook that  
Doug Green and I did.

First off, let me apologize for two things:

	1) I'm sorry it bothered you that I ran it. In the standard contract

I send out to GP contributors, I claim the right to use their pieces  
for promotional purposes, giving the authors full credit, and full  
reimbursement if there is any. In the case of the Weeder's Digest  
book, I also sent you and the other 39 contributors a small payment  
since the book was going to be sold for money (I never made any from  
it, myself, not a cent, but we won't go into that story). Since I  
first ran your wonderful piece in GP #9 (!), way back in Spring 1992,  
I guess I hadn't gotten a contact like that together yet. So your  
objection is a valid one. Sorry. No harm meant.
	I still hope you'll let me use it in the ebook. It's a great one,  
one of my all-time favorites. However, if you want me to pull it from  
the ebook, we can do that.

	2) You're right--your story has been cut! It just ends about  
halfway. I don't know what happened! I'm glad you pointed that out, I  
hadn't noticed it. That's bad. Especially since the ending is so  
absolutely beautiful, something I've quoted more than once in my day.  
Assuming it's OK with you that we still use your piece, I'll work  
with Doug on fixing that.

Hope all well and that you have no hard feelings over this. Heck, I  
hope you'll write for me again someday!

Let me know when you can if you want us to fix the piece and keep it  
-- or drop it altogether. All best and take care,
