Re: GWA - what to pack and wear?

All this talk is making me very sad that I will have to miss this year's conf in my old haunt Phila. I know you will have a great time with old friends and meet new ones. CBHL was in Los Angeles this year - muy expsensivo. Maybe next year the budget will allow...

Things you might want for the Symposium -- extra film or a second camera --
just in case. In 2003 my digital camera got stuck (someone had taken a photo
of me with it, I'm not kidding) and it never worked again. What a headeache!

Bring your own water bottle even though water will be provided on all busses
and at events, and a handy little notebook.

As for what to wear, you can get away with practically anything as long as
it is comfortable for walking and also for sitting on the bus. Kathy is
coming from Washington DC and is already familiar with a hot, muggy climate
and will dress in layers. It's been around 60 degrees here in the early
morning and hot later on. People sometimes dress up more for the dinner and
evening events, but only a slight step up from the day's shorts and jeans.

As for the banquet, I'm wearing sort of a garden party outfit. And amazingly
we are invited to bring swimsuits and splash around in Chanticleer's elegant
pool. Longwood Gardens day on Sunday has us walking a lot early on but
dancing on the terrace at the end of the day, so shoes are a big issue!

I'm going to shop for a lightweight plastic poncho -- are we ever overdue
for rain around here.

Of course you will bring business cards. You'll be wearing the symposium
badge, which usually comes in a little plastic-fronted pouch thing with room
for business cards and event tickets in the zippered back. And your card is
your raffle ticket at certain exhibit booths.

I'm looking forward to it all!
