Deep mulch materials
A question for those of you who use deep mulch materials: what do you
use for mulch? Organic materials available here in SW Idaho are
limited to mint sludge (most sprayed with persistent herbicide
Stinger, I think), alfalfa, fallen leaves and wheat or grass
straw. Either of the latter two may have been sprayed with
persistent broadleaf herbicides containing Picloram, Clopyralid or
Aminopyralid, so most are leery of using those products. There are
abundant pine needles in the mountains, but nobody bundles and sells
it as pine straw. Margaret Lauterbach
