Re: sad news

It is super touching to real everyone's tributes to Jim Wilson (I've been away). What a sorrowful passing.

I remember:

	— how, decades ago, he kindly invited me to his South Carolina home and gave me a morning's worth of much-needed free advice when I was just starting GreenPrints

—how he wrote the most fun and inspirational review of my speaking ever (including the memorable lie--uh, line--"I wish I had his energy and charisma. Put them together with my good looks and I would be unbeatable!" The kicker is Jim had never heard me speak!)

—sinking enemy submarines with him off the starboard side of the Garden Writer dinner cruise ship in St. Louis (yes, we were both just a little tipsy).

Most of all, I remember the very brief but oh-so-moving speech he gave when he was elected a Fellow of GWA, about the littlest acrobat in the circus act who, after the other strong members of the group have done all the hard work of making a tower of their own bodies, climbs over them to the top, stands up—and waves. I was moved to tears by the kind and gracious heart he shared there. I hope someone from GWA will please reprint that.

Best and condolences to all,

	Pat Stone
