I am not sure this counts but I was on the MG hotline when a gentleman  
called. He had heard that spraying arsenic on his developing apple on  the tree 
would stop/kill the worms that contaminated the apples. I  could not 
recommendthat he try it :)
I found out years later that back in the 50's?? maybe, a copper arsenic  
compound (or something similar) was used as a spray to avert  problems on 
apples.
