Good rant, Doug.

I would add to PR folks:

Give me ideas, not words. No columnist will ever run your prewritten
"columns, articles and news sheets" unless he or she was putting together a
Home and Garden advertising supplement.  Ideas. After 26 years I need Ideas
for columns. I know how to write them myself.

It wouldn't hurt if you sent along a name of a customer or two from my area
who might help me get a handle on the story from the local perspective---may
be even a local photo!

Don't send me something to write about without telling me where my readers
can buy it.  I don't want them calling me. And don't forget that the paper
has local advertisers they want my readers to buy from.....

Don't send me stuff in those fancy folders. I am not impressed, though I do
keep a few for my own use.  already have enough saved. They, like the black
and whites are tossed. What a waste.

Don't send plants unless you know I am going to be around.  Never send
plants to an office address unless they are set to arrive early in the week
so there is less chance they will spend the weekend without water.
