Nan - this is a possibility.  It is great for small lists and home scale 
use. However, the problem comes when you have a database of names that you 
massage regularly as a communication tool. Cutting and pasting etc to 
create bcc lists does not do necessary mailmerge operations.  Trust me on 
this one - you want to be able to do mailmerge operations with a group as 
diverse as gardenwriters. :-)

Electronic List management software is not expensive.  I use Worldmerge 
(www.coloradosoft.com) which only cost me $29.00  It reads all kinds of 
database formats and does mailmerge operations with intuitive ease. I have 
no association with the company - just a satisfied user for several years 
now. When combined with my el-cheapo MS Works database, I have a pretty 
powerful list management capabilities for little cost that I use on several 
mailing lists.
