Well, of course the germination and vigor of the seeds is what a gardener cares about, not their
age.  If we have an older lot of seeds that were of very high germination when fresh and have
largely held that high germination in storage, those seeds may well be much better than a fresh
but weak seed lot of the same variety.  The proof is in the pudding.  That's why the periodic lab
germination tests are important.  No seeds that germinate well are "older than they should be" no
matter how long ago they were harvested.
