Re: [GWL]: newspapers & Master Gardener columns


I think there is a point being missed in this discussion.

When a master gardener writes a column for a newspaper,
that is NOT public service--it is serving the publisher
of the newspaper. Unless, of course, the
publisher is giving away the paper.  If a master gardener
is at a garden store, answering questions and giving advice,
the public can benefit from that without making a purchase.
When the advice is contained in a newspaper, the public
has to buy the paper. The policy of not allowing
master gardeners to receive payment serves the publisher, not the public.
