Something we've all faced, one time or another, Carol.

But it's fixable with a short note saying something like, "If you make
any changes to this list, please contact me first. Some "obvious"
additions actually do not belong, for various reasons, and we should
discuss them before including their addresses." 

Sometimes there's no hope for keeping somebody out, because of
advertising or other considerations. But, in general, editors to not wish
to tout companies who don't supply their readers with the best products
and service. If you can point out to an editor _why_ a particular company
should not be included in a source list, they'll go along with you if
they can.
