Well....

I just heard that the contract for my weekly column in London's 
Evening Standard is not to be renewed in the spring. Advertising on 
the paper is down 20% from one quarter to the next, budgets have all 
been revised, pagination cut. All freelance writers are suffering; 
the big name political and scoial commentators will have their space 
cut, others are also being dropped. There is a staff recruitment 
freeze.

Yes, it's tough out there.
