Thanks, Doreen. I knew that they were a potential health hazard not just to plants (witness what
once was a garden and lawn strip that is now dead, burnt out land) but to humans as well. But I
can use some good, real examples like this.

Does anyone else have any good grackle stories?

I heard they are a problem in California wine country where big loud booms of some sort go off
regularly to keep them away from the grapes.
