Title: Re: [GWL] finding specialists to interview
There is a great service for writers/reporters/media called
profnet (www.profnet.com), run by the PR Newswire. You have to
register (no charge), and you can specify the specialty area you are
interested in, give your deadlines, contact info, etc. You describe
what you are looking for -- researchers of night terrors in children
-- or some such, and viola! people contact you with the
experts.
I have used this service successfully throughout my career as a
newspaper reporter and free-lance journalist, especially when writing
about areas or topics that I have no contacts or resources. It's a
good place to start.
University news bureaus also are a good source for finding
experts. Most can be contacted through university Web sites. Also,
trade associations, such as the American Psychological Association,
can be extremely helpful. There's a trade or professional group for
just about everything. You just have to keep in mind what slant or
spin the info may have.
Whenever I talk to an expert, I always ask if there's someone
else he or she would recommend I interview, including someone who
might disagree with their premise/theory. That's another good way to
build up sources.
Hope this helps.

Hi everyone
This is not a true gardening question, but more of a
writing question. While I have mainly been doing
garden writing in the past, I am hoping to expand my
horizons a bit to other areas. One thing I would like
to query on is children who experience night terrors.
The problem is that I feel I should list the people I
will interview by name in my query. The reality is
that I have no idea how to go about finding these
experts to interview. I would like to find a doctor
and a psychiatrist/psychologist currently working or
researching in this field. If anyone has any ideas as
to how I would go about finding such experts I would
love to hear your suggestions.
Thank you in advance
Suzanne White
