Title: Re: [GWL] Plugging My Stuff I'll add something to this one. You can now buy a device that uses a laser beam to read the temperature of something from a distance. My son got one for his wildlife work. For instance, turtles bask in the sun to get heat to help their metabolism, and with the "gun" my son found that the temperature on the dark surface of their shells was over 105 F on a day that was only in the high 60's. Imagine teaming Jeff's device with something like this. You could take the temperature of your soil and see if it looked ready to plant without stepping off the porch. :-)

Me too:
It is -10 degrees here in Anchorage, so please pardon my boldness. It helps
keep me warm!
Is it O.K. for a fellow Garden Writer Association member to ask for help
promoting a product? I hope so because I need help promoting a brand new
monocular that focuses from infinity down to 18 inches and makes looking at
insects and flowers as simple as bird watching.....like using a macro lense
without the hassle of the camera and without the need to get right on the
subject. Using this scope you can stand back 6 feet and the view is macro!
I tested the prototype of the scopes at several GWA meetings and you may
have looked through
it. The final version is simply incredible. It really is a tool every single
gardener could use, not to
mention nature lovers, bird watchers, engineers, those with macular
degeneration.......
Please take a look at www.closetoinfinity.com for details. You will see I
am part of the team that invented and licensed the instrument and we want to
drive people to the site. There is no question this is the best present a
gardener will EVER receive!
Let me know if you have questions! I am sorry to be so bold, but on the up
side, this is perfect for your Holiday Gift column.
Cheers,
Jeff Lowenfels
