Re: self publishing - in depth
When I was researching the publishing of The Cape Cod Garden I found it more
expensive to do print-on-demand. Several of the printers in Poynter's book do it if you're
interested. I must stress that anyone who is thinking of self-publishing should shop around
for printing prices. I had quotes ranging from 2.50 per book up to 13.00 per book, for the
same weight/color of paper and size of book. Most of the printers listed in the Poynter
book have websites and you can request quotes by email... many of them will send you
samples of other books they've printed if you request it. (Be sure to research the type of
binding, paper, size and number of pages you are interested in so that your quotes will be
comparing apples to apples and your samples will be of the same type you're
considering.) When I bought it two years ago the Poynter book was 19.95. His website is
