Hi Lon,

   RSS is more of a protocol to send news data.  An RSS feed could be 
   used to send Google news, but I think you're probably getting it
   through email.

   RSS basically takes the data and encapsulates it in XML, which is a
   standard format that RSS-aware applications can then parse to display
   the content.

   Many Web-browsers are now RSS-aware -- you tell it where to get a
   feed, and it scrolls the latest news across the bottom in a ticker-
   tape style (like some of the 24-hour news networks do).  Other wireless
   devices are RSS-aware so that you can get the latest news streamed to
   your cell phone, Blackberry, or whatever.

   About a year ago someone asked me to make the hort.net news stories
   available as an RSS feed, but I didn't really see the point.  I figured
   that most of our readership wouldn't use it, and we didn't put up news
   often enough to make it worthwhile.

   But expect to see RSS pop up in more and more places.  I've toyed with
   the idea of making my mailing lists send the subjects as RSS streams.
   Then I could see all of the latest subjects scrolling across the bottom
   of my screen without having to go read them all.  If one looks
   interesting, I can go open up my email and read it in more detail.

   Speaking of technology, I'm working on more cool stuff for hort.net
   again.  If anyone has tech wish lists, let me know and maybe we can
   get it added.  :)
