Re: USDA Leafy Greens Proposal


I agree.  But I am not sure that complete sterilization of the growing field
of all organisms is an appropriate response.  Also, there are proposals to
require twice weekly testing of all green leafy plants. This requirement
would spell an end to fresh greens in local farm markets because the
estimated testing time would run over 4 days.

Don't get me wrong.  I don't want to get sick from eating leafy greens, but
I hate to see the government overreact, also.

Didn't mean to start a major uproar.  I was just surprised how little
comment was occurring about these proposals.

I tried to check out the new regs but the link did not work for me, John.
My view on fresh greens is that they should not be grown just downhill a 
little way from hog, dairy, or poultry farms.
Also, they are a lot safer if not pre-bagged and sitting around in the 
stores that way for days while microbes multiply.
Hmm, I'm not that well informed on the topic and maybe there's more here 
than meets the eye.
