    To a nursery owner who experiences a cash flow restriction from December 
through mid-February, speaking engagements are not a bad thing. I do not get 
rich from them, but I do have an opportunity to get out and promote 
inventory and nursery services, help gardeners become aware we are there for 
the spring season. My information is posted on my web site under Lectures.
    My fee is $450 for one hour plus travel at federal rates and over night 
accommodations more than 50 miles out. I no longer do free presentations 
with the exception of our local Master Gardener group that I am a member of. 
I believe I paid my dues when I got started speaking.
    I have always depended upon my web site and word of mouth for 
advertising. I probably should do more, but never seem to find the time.
    I am aware of quite a few speakers out there who are charging a goodly 
amount and see them, or see their names listed for events, quite frequently. 
There are also several levels on the speaking circuit. Still plenty of 
opportunities out there. Nothing wrong with cash flow in the winter.....
