Re: Setting fees, Garden Rant and freebies

I give two basic talks...one on The science of organics...ie Teaming  
With Microbes and the other on the science of the compost pile.... The  
Compost Soil Web.....both took me about 30 hours to prepare in  
Powerpoint/Keynote.  When a group and I decide on the exact topic  
(always centered around these two), I will spend a few hours  
adapting.  If I give the standard talks, I spend an hour to  
'personalize' it (if in Chicago, I throw in a few pictures of the city  
or their baseball teams etc...).

It has been worth the effort. Most of my recent gigs have been from  
referrals from people who have see one of the talks. This is why it is  
great to do annual meetings of industry groups or master gardener  
state meets.....I encourage all to get into these venues....
