Re: Public speaking

This has indeed been a fascinating thread, with GWA members renowned for
their books and abilities weighing in. I am new to public speaking, but now
I love it. I had a book come out in April, and I went from giving zero
presentations a year to several a month plus radio interviews nationwide.
The one thing that has helped me the most was joining Toastmasters. Have any
of you done so? The encouragement and constructive criticism can make the
difference between a good speaker and a great one. At my last venue, during
the book signing, I received a compliment I'll always treasure: That I
should teach public speaking! A year ago, I wouldn't have believed it. There
are Toastmasters groups everywhere; if you're interested, simply Google
"Toastmasters" and your city or region.

If any of you are in the Denver, Portland, or San Francisco areas, I'd love
to connect with you when I'm in those cities on tour with Horticulture
magazine, January 26-29, http://secure.hortmag.com/programs/index_2008.asp.
I'll also be speaking at the Northwest and San Francisco Flower & Garden
Shows.
