Re: GWA Award Musings (From Graham Rice)
I totally agree with Graham. Some of the award categories, their descriptions, and their requirements seem very haphazard to me, and the standards for a winning entry are not clearly stated. I wonder if it is partially the difficulty of transitioning to electronic and web stuff from their former all-print awards (as I assume they were)?
Actually the only thing that does not surprise me in the least is the fee structure. These award programs are generally all about the revenue. Our city/regional mag awards are the same. Texas Monthly can afford to send in 50 submissions; Buffalo, not so much.
