I would like to know what newsletter recommended that gardeners hoard
pots. I think the source can often help us determine how much attention
we choose to pay to a particular suggestion. I just moved to a house
with a deck and had planned to buy several large containers to fill with
annuals and provide color to the deck. So do I run out to the store
today to buy them now (if they are available) or wait until summer when
I can plant. 
I like the thread that has developed though: how to obtain
cans/containers on the cheap!! I have to see what my local pizza shop
has to offer (what about rusting?)

Or...  Stop by your local pizza shop and ask for their empty 2 pound
cans
of pizza sauce.  They use them by the gross, and toss the empty cans.

Perfect size, and they last a long time.  They are even painted with
food
grade paint on the inside.
