I lurked around GWL a few years back and recently rejoined the list.
Re the plant hardiness thread -
This article, on the Australian National Botanic Garden web site, about developing a plant hardiness map for Australia highlights the problems with these maps - including inconsistent use of terminology and he difficulty of dealing with microclimates.
