Whilst I was responding to this thread, I pressed an incorrect key and Jeff Ball's email whooshed off of my screen.
I thought I corrected the problem.
The definitive piece to which you are referring was written by Jeff not me. I only wish I had. But I will be quoting it- just as soon he gives me the go ahead.

I also enjoyed Dan's piece very much. The problem suggests the solution - less lawns, less problems - biodiversity is the key. Longer grass though, as Dan suggested, also uses less water.
