Re: southern weeds
Just sat through a sobering talk here at New England Grows re climate change. If one of the gloomier scenario they presented comes true, "southern" weeds, yea, even kudzu, will be in southern Maine by the end of this century.

Subject: [GWL] southern weeds
As Anne noted (and I was remiss for not mentioning it) Florida betony is a
pervasive winter weed. Fortunately, it is fairly easy to pull by hand -
just as long as you get all the roots and do it before it sets seed.
An interesting note (and others may wonder if I'm a modern-day Euell
Gibbons) the rattlesnake weed (as it is called because its tuberous roots
look like rattles) is edible! A member of the mint family (check the square
stems), its white tubers taste like radishes when raw - an herbalist
described the flavor as between mint and horseradish. They can also be
roasted.
