Re: Did anyone else get this dubious request?
I appreciate Shauna's comment.
Back in my earlier days as a young mother and writer I was a freelancer for
a business weekly, The Orlando Business Journal. Initially I proposed the
topics but eventually the editors would ask me to do random assignments on
their list. With some pride, I considered myself a reporter who would
investigate whatever subject the editors chose to give me. That's how I came
to write two long pieces about internal auditors and several more about
municipal bonds. Believe me, back then I was innocent of any preconceptions
on these topics! But I researched and did interviews with experts and quoted
them, and llived to write another day. I was shocked, however, to figure out
that internal auditors rule the world -- or at least they used to before we
all went bankrupt.
Point is, to me a writer who is willing to prove herself by writing on any
assigned topic in the general area of interest involved is someone who is
confident of her skills and eager to plunge into a challenge and start her
career.
