Re: Path to a literary agent...
I strongly suggest that you investigate each response you receive by using something like google. I became aware of this need just before I signed up with an "agent" wo turned out to be just a vanity publisher. If that is what you want fine, but I bet you will find much dangerous information about most of them.

If you haven't written a book before, you may need to have the entire book
ritten.
However, if you have a track record on writing, you may not. Also, you can
uery agents/book publishers with a proposal and they may send you a note
hat says send it to me when it's done. Then you know they're interested. If
hey don't think it's a good topic, they will reject your proposal entirely.

ubject: [GWL] Path to a literary agent...
I've been hearing conflicting advice about finding a literary agent for a
on-fiction, humorous garden design book concept I'm working on. My
easoning for going the agent route is that I intend to "be" more than a
ook and am seeking someone interested in a multi-faceted client who can
lso work in TV, lecturing, etc.
My readings and discussions seem to point to A) having a well-constructed
utline/TOC for the book, a few sample chapters and possibly a
rofessionally designed layout of a few sample pages; then B) starting the
uery letter process and having the above-mentioned proposal ready to go.
However, yesterday I attended my first writer's group meeting and the
nanimous consensus (5 people; all fiction writers) is that I need to have
he entire book written before I start the query process.
I am not interested in the self-publishing route at this time (but that
ould end up being an option).
Your thoughts?
