Re: Question on Book Prospectus
Well, Dan
We certainly share some experiences... I did freelance for a
newspaper for about a year. No sex, no religion, no humor attempts and keep
to an 8th grade level. the editor was a great lady, who really was one heck
of a words smith, but knew nothing about gardening. Whether she know sex,
religion or humor I do not know. Everything I submitted was handed over to
the local garden guru for scrutiny. Who was very knowledgeable, but not
particularly in my area or gardening. Sometimes we simply could not agree on
points for I wrote from local experience and she was looking it up in a
reference. Would that everyone was as wonderful and knowledgeable as
you and I.

Certainly not experienced with a university press in this particular arena
but...is it possible they're locked into a "peer review" mentality similar
to papers, essays etc meant for journal publication?
I did have a go round with one set of editors who insisted on documentation
of statements found in my newspaper column, e.g. a particular viburnum grows
very well in my area of the country and I knew that because it has been in
my front yard for decades. Apparently, that wasn't sufficient authority to
make such a definitive statement. They wanted corroboration from another
source: is Gene experiencing a similar mind set?
