Re: Top 10 gardening books of all time?

I agree with Kirk. AJD's work is brilliant in both building and landscape
architecture. I have hundreds of gardening books, many of them by people
on this list, and I love them all.

But those I return to over and over are: 
Robert Gilmore's The Woodland Garden, because it deals comprehensively
with the delights and problems of a space very much like my own;
John Brookes' The Country Garden, because I learned a lot about
incorporating views outside my own space and because it has lots of good
pictorial ideas;
Julie Moire Messervy's The Inward Garden, well because great minds think
alike :-) ;  
Ann Lovejoy's Organic Garden Design School, because I find the chapters
helped organize my thinking along lines that make more sense; and
Leighton and Simond's The New American Landscape Gardener, because of its
folksy, laissez faire approach and it suggests solutions to problems that
other books just ignore.

Two niche books I like because I'm a fan of the Arts and Crafts Movement:
Rick Darke's In Harmony with Nature -- I used it as a guide of places to
visit, and
Derek Fell's The Gardens of Frank Lloyd Wright -- because I probably
won't get to see them all in person (and because I like Derek's books).

Maybe not the top gardening books of all time -- but at least of my time.
