Re: Top 10 gardening books of all time?

Russell Page's, The Education of a Gardener, 1963, is my moth-eared
landscape design and psychological companion to understanding client needs.

Sir Roy Strong's, The Laskett, 2004, for personalization of garden places
and social comment. Tres chic and a great read about HOW to go about making
garden places.

Anything by Rosemary Verey or Penelope Hobhouse.

Hugh Thomas's, The Art of Garden Design, 1973, shaped my early thoughts
about garden design with his quirky sketches. He also does right well with
wine books!

Hugh and Mary Palmer Dargan's, Timeless Landscape Design: The Four Part
Master Plan, 2007, for putting all the best from the above into one
elegant, educational text (self-promotional pump intended)

Beth Chatto's Garden Notebook, 1988, for extraordinary plantsmanship. An
inspirational story of creating her spectacular nursery and 10 Chelsea Gold
medal wins.

Obviously, I am a devoted anglophile.

Cheers, Mary Palmer
