Oh cringe! Magazines and books vary widely here, too, but that one is
dreadful. More often than not, a copy editor inserts something at the last
minute. If the text doesn't go back to the content editor before it goes to
press, all sorts of things can happen. Or, as has happened to me, the
content editor decides to spice things up and introduces something that
sounds good--if you know only a little about the subject.
I'm sure the editor is mortified. None-the-less, I would mention it and
would also suggest that they might look at their routing procedures. --This
is clearly a case of neglect at the final page stage.
