Re: [GWL]: Book Fees

You should look over the listings in the GWAA Speaker's Bureau. These will
give you a good idea of what to charge and how to arrange your
presentations. Personally, the subjects I speak on lend themselves to
visuals. I have an extensive slide archive and can usually borrow what I
don't have from plant producers. They are always happy to help. Besides
the slides, you have to develop a good script or patter that will hold the
audiences' attention. Handouts are good, too, because most people will
forget 1/2 of what you said an hour later. The handouts reinforce your
message and jog the person's memory. Speaking engagements are also great
opportunities to sell your latest book. Many authors buy boxes of books
from the publisher at cost and resell them to audiences at full retail. You
make a nice profit.
