RE: [GWL]: Agent or no agent?



There are two reasons to have an agent - someone who finds you work and/or
someone who after you find some work negotiates the contract.  Those are two
very different functions.  I used an agent to negotiate the contract after I
lined up the work.  He made me much more money than I would have enjoyed
trying to negotiate on my own.  He also took the heat and angst coming out
of the negotiation so folks didn't hate me when the work began.  I think
about publicists in conjunction with a national audience.  I've never had
one though the publicists on this list will probably point that I could have
used one (grin).
