    You're quite right on part of that.

    The average lifespan of a street tree in America is actually somewhat
less than 8 years, and certainly every single city block will be different.
    BUT, I was looking over the USDA data again and I did indeed make a
mistake on the number of birch sold in Michigan--and you're not the only one
who caught that. Some of this material isn't as clear as it ought to be.
    In actuality, a mere 14,000 birch trees were sold in Michigan in 1998.
My apologies to one and all for this glaring error. The other figures I
quoted were correct though.
