To All,

    I posted this same question about the average lifespan of city trees, on
the urban forest UFESI website (all tree pros) and got many good answers.
Here is a typical one I just received:

Tom,
You should call Gary Moll at the American Forests organization. He and
Bob Skiera wrote an article on "The Sad State of City Trees" in the
March/April, 1992 issue of American Forests magazine. They have compiled
statistics
for average inner city and residential tree life for 20 American cities.
Worst case scenarios show a life span of 6 years for inner city trees in
both
Chicago and Indianapolis. The best was 20 years for Houston and Los
Angeles.
