Re: [GWL]: City tree lifespans/ worms

To all,

    I think the comments of Mary Appelhof, Author of "Worms Eat My Garbage,"
about worm castings and trees, is well worth considering.
    . I often wonder why everyone who gardens doesn't have a wormbin? It is
so darn easy and the rewards are so very great.
Raising a bunch of garbage chomping redworms turned out to be one of the
easiest and most satisfying things I've ever done in my garden. The benefits
of worm castings (and worms) to soil structure is just now really starting
to be understood. Here in California worm castings are being used to combat
such plant deadly diseases as Pierce's Disease (grapes) and Sudden death Oak
disease--with interesting and promising results too.
    I think all garden writers would do a service to their readers to keep
reminding them of the win-win situation with plant health, good soil
structure, and earthworms.
